Info

Cannons are basic cannons which are easy to create and can fire a wide variety of different things. While they are not as mobile as guns or melee weapons, they do much larger damage

How To Make

Cannons are very simple to make, and can vary in length. They come in 2 style's: Classic and Modern. Both types perform the same and they only differ by how they look. the thumbnails on the left show an example of both a modern looking cannon and a classic looking cannon.

Cannons are basically made out of black wool, and have 2 buttons at each end. Classic cannons require a torch on top at the end, while modern cannons use a stone block at the end instead.

You can make them up to 8 blocks long, or as short as 2 blocks

An example of both types of cannon can be seen on the right further down the page

Using the cannon

  • 1. Load whatever block or item you want to fire from the cannon by right clicking the cannon while holding the item
  • 2. If you want to aim/point it at something, right click on the side of the cannon you want it to aim towards (Protip: Right click the cannon while holding a clock and it will automatically aim itself at where you are looking at)
  • 3 click the button or right click the torch to fire it (make sure you click it with an empty hand

Ammo and Projectiles

  • Explosive (Cobblestone): makes an explosion wherever it hits
  • Armor piercing (Stone): Plows through walls up to 4 blocks thick. Does a large amount of damage to anything it hits. Does extra damage to any mobs/players it hits which are wearing armor.
  • Shrapnel (Glass): Does damage to anything near where it hits, but does not destroy bocks
  • Poison (Rotten flesh): poisons anything near where it hits
  • Flechette (Arrow): Fires a barrage of 15 arrows in front of the cannon
  • Flak (TnT): Fires an explosive, which releases more explosives when it hits something. If it doesnt hit anything 2 seconds after leaving the cannon, it will explode in midair.

Upgrades

  • See the cannons page on how to move your cannon by attaching it to a movecraft vehicle, and basic upgrades such as autoloaders

Pros/cons vs other weapons

Cannons may be large and cumbersome, but they have their advantages as well as disadvantages when it comes to guns and melee weapons

Advantages

  • Cheaper to build than most guns which shoot explosives
  • Generally have longer range than most melee weapons and guns
  • Much better and plowing through blocks, fortresses, and any kind of defenses
  • Can be part of the scenery on buildings
  • Longer cannons are more accurate than most other weapons

Disadvantages

  • Can be less powerful than melee weapons of equal cost
  • Not as portable
  • Usually require teamwork to use most effectively
  • Ammo can be more expensive than that of other weapons
  • Take longer to shoot (unless using an autoloader)

Bugs

  • None

Trivia/Tips

  • Cannons, especially large ones, are best used with help from another player. try having one player aim the cannon while another fires it
  • Small cannons however, can easily be used by one person since you can shoot, aim, and reload without having to move all over the place
  • Cannons can be remotely fired using redstone. This allows for making traps using cannons, or rapid firing cannons which can be remotely controlled and aimed from a safe position
